Vasa – European Journal of Vascular Medicine – Special Issue on "Acute and chronic venous outflow obstructions – a global burden"

Deep vein thrombosis is a potentially devastating condition and may cause permanent disability with significant morbidity and even mortality. Approximately 60% of patients with DVT recover without further symptoms. However, 40% will have some degree of post-thrombotic syndrome and 4% will develop severe post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS). PTS is the most common complication; it reduces quality of life and increases DVT-related costs. During the last years, evidence emerged for recanalisation treatment of acute and chronic venous outflow obstruction to prevent post-thrombotic syndrome. Many questions still remain for new technologies, including modern dedicated venous stents and thrombectomy devices. This special issue will focus on different topics within the venous field. The guest editors of the Special Issue will be Dr. Michael Lichtenberg, MD, Dr. Rick de Graaf, MD, PhD and Dr. Houman Jalaie, MD.

Preliminary topics include

  • Studies or study protocols illuminating on economic burden aspects of post-thrombotic syndrome
  • Studies or study protocols illuminating new recanalization technologies for acute and chronic venous outflow obstructions (Including studies especially for novel dedicated venous stents, thrombectomy devices and recanalization techniques
  • Systematic literature reviews on available epidemiologic data for post-thrombotic syndrome
  • Systematic literature reviews on available data for treatment of acute and chronic venous outflow obstructions

We invite you to contribute original manuscripts to "Acute and chronic venous outflow obstructions – a global burden" based on your research related to the above-mentioned topics. The final submission deadline for review articles and research articles is 30th September, 2020. Manuscripts submitted after the due date will not be accepted for this Special Issue.

To avoid overlap of topics, please first send the tentative title of your manuscript to the Guest Editors at m.lichtenberg(at)klinikum-hochsauerland.de as well as the editor-in-chief at acreutzig(at)onlinehome.de.When you are ready to submit your article, please go to www.editorialmanager.com/vasa/default.aspx and choose the Article Type "Special Issue: Venous Interventions".

Please note that all manuscripts will go through a thorough peer review process and acceptance to this Special Issue is not guaranteed. Thank you.

We are a looking forward to the submissions for the Special Issue of Vasa – European Journal of Vascular Medicine.
